As much as I LOVE and recommend Lake Tahoe – it will be a tight squeeze to fit it into a 4 day SF itinerary, if I’m honest. It’s a 3.5 hour drive each-way (without heavy traffic) so, you’d want to be staying the night there to avoid too much driving in one day. Which would then give you just two full days in San Francisco. I would suggest Muir Woods instead as you can easily squeeze that into a day trip.
