I do consider Queenstown a great place to live with kids – very safe, lots of playgrounds, kid-friendly Cafes and great schools here too. However, I’m not sure if you’re planning to send your kids to Creche – but the waitlists for a space can be long in these. I worked in hotels and my husband in construction and we never had any issue finding work, so, I suppose it would depend on the type of work you’re looking for. I hope that helps.

We are have 2 kids, a 6yo and a 5mo. Do you think its a good idea to move with kids and are there enough jobs for us to survive, given the high cost of living ? We mainly want to explore south Island at our pace while living there.

Hey, so exciting! If you’re moving over in 5 months that would be around June? In that case, it may be a little harder to find accommodation as it’s the start of ski season. Your best option is to stay in a hostel or an apartment for a few weeks while you search. Some good letting agents in Queenstown include Harcourts and Bayleys – I’d keep an eye on their website for listings. The ‘Queenstown Houses to Rent’ Facebook page is another good place to look. As for, the difference between Queenstown and Whistler – as much as we loved Whistler we think it’s easier to settle in Queenstown long-term. Many expats stay here for years as opposed to only months in Whistler. I also think Queenstown is cheaper for rent and the wages are higher. But, the skiing here is nowhere near as good as Whistler if that’s what you’re after. Hope that helps.

I’m moving over in 5ish months, but I’m moving over with a few other people. There are 4 of us that are hoping to find a 3 bed apartment. Do you think we will struggle to find a house together?
Also how did your experience compare to whistler? I’ve been living in Banff for a year and a half now and it’s with friends from here that I’m moving over with!

Are you coming to queenstown NZ, or going to Queensland, Australia?
